County Broadband serves up tennis treat for Queen’s Club competition winners

A Cambridgeshire couple who won a County Broadband competition to enjoy the iconic Queen’s Club tennis finals with luxury VIP tickets have described the experience as “special and memorable”.

East of England rural community provider County Broadband launched the competition in Lolworth in South Cambridgeshire after switching on its new full fibre broadband network in the village.

Lolworth residents Ash and Juliet entered the prize draw when signing up to connect to the gigabit-capable full fibre infrastructure and were announced as the lucky winners of the pair of hospitality tickets to attend the final day of the cinch Championships 2024 held at The Queen’s Club in London.

The couple enjoyed the world class action from the comfort and luxury of the Roof Garden hospitality suite as American Tommy Paul defeated Lorenzo Musetti to win the men’s singles title while Briton Neal Skupski and New Zealander Michael Venus won the men’s doubles trophy.

The Lolworth residents thanked County Broadband for a “truly special and memorable day”.

“We were delighted when news arrived that County Broadband were bringing full fibre to our village and we contacted them straight away after receiving their advertisement flyer,” they said.

“We were given full details of the expected installation processes and timeframes along with a clear breakdown of the broadband speeds and pricing packages. We selected a package that matched our needs and confirmed to go ahead with a contract, while we also entered the prize draw.

“We thought nothing of the competition, until out of the blue around six weeks later, we received a phone call to inform us that we had won the tickets! We were utterly amazed.

“It was a fantastic day and even the sunshine came out! The Roof Garden hospitality service was wonderful with a three-course lunch, afternoon tea and bar service throughout with wine and Pimm’s flowing freely. We had the best seats in the middle of Centre Court for the singles and doubles men’s finals which were epic throughout. Thank you County Broadband!”

Full fibre broadband, also known as Fibre-To-The-Premises (FTTP), is the installation of fibre optic cables directly into premises. The digital infrastructure provides gigabit speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps (megabits per second) which is 11 times quicker than pre-existing Victorian copper networks.

Full fibre broadband can also be upgraded to over 10,000 Mbps speeds in the future and provides vastly superior network reliability due to the technology of fibre optics and the FTTP infrastructure.

In contrast, old and slow copper-based superfast networks are based on Fibre-To-The-Cabinet (FTTC) networks in which fibre cables are sent to roadside cabinets and distributed via copper cabling.

East of England rural community provider County Broadband, based in Aldham, near Colchester in Essex, specialises in designing, building and deploying gigabit-speed full fibre infrastructure in rural and hard-to-reach communities which have been typically overlooked by large national providers.

In total, County Broadband is delivering full fibre broadband in over 250 villages and market towns across the East of England, backed by a combined £146 million of private investment from Aviva Investors, to help drive economic growth and provide reliable access to modern online services.
