County Broadband steps up to save Tendring Show’s internet provision

County Broadband has received glowing praise after stepping in at the last minute to provide internet provision for the hugely popular Tendring Show this summer.

Wi-fi access at the 105th Tendring Show was thrown into doubt when the original provider pulled out just three weeks before the event was due to take place.

However, organisers Tendring Hundred Farmers’ Club were handed a lifeline when Essex-based community provider County Broadband committed to pull out all the stops for the rural extravaganza, which was taking place for the first time since 2019.

We supplied essential equipment and provided on-site installation and management. Our hard work meant the Show’s growing range of digital services across its 150 trade stands and exhibitions could fully go ahead as planned.

Around 20,000 people attended the Tendring Show at Lawford House Park near Manningtree in July. The non-profit family event, which dates back to 1899, celebrates farming, food and fitness. Visitors enjoy large displays of agricultural machinery, livestock, and opportunities to buy food and drink from local producers.

In a handwritten letter sent to County Broadband following the successful event, Will King, Chairman of the Tendring Hundred Farmers’ Club, wrote: “On behalf of the Tendring Hundred Farmers’ Club, I’d like to thank you for setting up and supplying wi-fi across our Showground.

“I know you and County Broadband were only given the challenge three weeks prior to the Show but you certainly stepped up to the mark and supplied us and our exhibitors and customers a great service on the day.

“With ever-increasing reliance on internet access to ensure smooth running of our Show, we thank you and look forward to working with you next year.”

It’s not the first time that we have supported a community event with broadband provision.

In summer 2021, the EA Festival appointed County Broadband as its infrastructure partner to provide Hyperfast connectivity for its inaugural weekend at Hedingham Castle in Essex. The EA Festival was able to live stream its programme in real-time using our services, while festival attendees were able to connect to free wi-fi on site.

Adrian Warren, Director of Marketing and Communications at County Broadband, who worked closely with the Tendring Show organisers, said: “As a community broadband provider, we were only too happy to answer the call and support the fantastic Tendring Show.

“It was a tight turnaround but we threw everything and the kitchen sink at the job to ensure every single visitor, business owner and volunteer could enjoy seamless and high-quality wi-fi provision across the Showground.

“Our previous experience at the EA Festival and our day-to-day work of designing and building full-fibre networks in rural and remote communities certainly paid off. We’re glad it all came together and everyone enjoyed another memorable Tendring Show. We look forward to supporting in 2023!”
